Welcome to The HUNGR Project's Website. This website is dedicated to raise awareness on the issue of Poverty in Vietnam. My name is Nina McLean and I am currently in 10th grade as a student at the United Nations International School (UNIS) in Hanoi. During 9th and 10th year of school, we are all introduced to the Personal Project. This project is a year-long project that is based on what we have chosen to do ourselves.
My personal project is to raise awareness about Poverty in Vietnam and help the UN with their first Millennium Development Goal to Eradicate Extreme Poverty and Hunger by 2015. I currently live in Vietnam, and being half Vietnamese I thought it would be a good opportunity to raise awareness and help the Vietnamese community. I want to raise awareness about Poverty but specifically the consequences to Poverty on children. But living in Vietnam which is a developing country, I want to educate others about this specific issue. Hopefully through this website you will be able to learn about Poverty in general and the Poverty in Vietnam.
Com Co Thit:
Along this journey, I will be in contact with an organization in Vietnam called Com Co Thit, who helps with children in Poverty in Vietnam. Every month, they donate to a different region in Vietnam. They do not always donate money, but instead they donate what each region really needs. Some of their works include: building a school in the Bat Sat region and making education available for children; or for the month of December, making jackets for the children in Sapa for the harsh winters there where sometimes snow falls.
I am grateful to be working with this Organization, and I am eager to see what we can achieve.
