Poverty in Vietnam
Vietnam as a developing country is still facing poverty. It is estimated that 70% of the population is still living in rural areas and earns an income of 2$ to 3$ on a daily basis. With these statistics in mind, the government has taken action to reduce the poverty rate. Vietnam was able to achieve the first MDG (Millennium Development Goal set by the UN) of halving the poverty percentage from years 1990 - 2015. This is remarkable for Vietnam since it is a developing country, and the government still continues to this day with this MDG goal. According to the UK Department for International Development, approximately 3 million people broke the poverty cycle in 2006.
However Vietnam's 53 ethnic minorities still live in poverty in the mountains or forests. It is difficult to reach them since they live in these areas. However, the government is still trying to make education, health services, or good jobs available to those areas. Not only is the government trying to achieve these goals, certain organizations have been created to help as well such as the Com Co Thit Organization (brief information in the 'About' section, or their Website and Facebook link in the 'Contact' section for more details).
